What does your App do?

Lightning Charts is a native iPad application developed for bedside Emergency Department physician documentation.  Lightning Charts comes with more than 1,700 pre-populated templates that the physician simply “edits-to-accuracy,” saving the clinician significant time and improving risk management by capturing patient information at the bedside. Our app features 100% real-time compliance with CMS core measures and PQRS scores. Additional features include the integration of speech recognition through Nuance Healthcare’s 360 | Development Platform, eprescribing, Exit-Writer discharge instructions, Isabel medical decision-making support and the ability to capture images with the iPad camera and drop them into the chart in seconds.  Lightning Charts is able to integrate with all hospital legacy systems.

Who uses your App?

Lightning Charts is designed to be used by Emergency Department physicians and their support staff including physician assistants, nurses, authorized hospital administrators and billing companies.

What are the top 5 features/benefits of your App?

Lightning Charts is synonymous with fast documentation.  Because of its unique, dynamically created charts, Lightning Charts can save the physician about four minutes a chart.  If a physician sees 30 patients a shift, Lightning Charts can save the physician 120 minutes per shift.  That’s two hours that the physician can spend with existing patients or see more patients.

Lightning Charts creates a medical record that looks, prints and reads like the “gold standard” in emergency department documentation – the dictated chart.  This is particularly valuable in terms of “transfer of care” to other providers within the department, hospital or broader medical community and for risk management.

Lightning Charts lets physicians create and complete charts at the patient bedside.  Using the iPad to document untethers the physician so he or she can move from bedside-to-bedside and patient-to-patient without having to return to a fixed work station to document.  This clearly saves time, and more time with the patient increases patient satisfaction scores and contributes to better outcomes.

Moreover, speech-enabling our app through Nuance Healthcare allows physicians to quickly and accurately dictate at any point in the chart adding information to customize and personalize the documentation of the patient encounter.

Lightning Charts also allows images to quickly and easily be incorporated into the chart using the iPad camera.  Abuse, battery, automobile and other injuries that are destined to end up in court can now be documented in pictures rather than in words that are difficult for juries to properly understand.  Images can be stored in four “buckets”: clinical, EKG, radiology and documents.

How does medical speech recognition from Nuance Healthcare improve clinical workflow and patient care in your App?

Most importantly, medical speech recognition by Nuance Healthcare allows the physician to document specifics and subtleties that are not available via any template – e.g., “The patient’s chest pain was exacerbated by watching his son slide into home plate and break his ankle.”  Nuance Healthcare allows Lightning Charts, and therefore the physician, greater flexibility in customizing patient documentation to accurately reflect the encounter and leave an accurate record that will offer subsequent providers a clear picture of what occurred and what action was taken.

What devices/platforms (iOS, Android, Browser, Desktop) are supported by your App?

Lightning Charts supports iOS, browser and desktop.
