With this year rapidly coming to an end, it feels natural to reflect.
A chapter is closing, taking with it the good memories, as well as the more challenging ones.
This season and the arrival of the winter holidays inspires me to consider something important, but not often discussed in day-to-day life: Joy.
Allow me to take a moment to ask: What brings you joy? How can your work bring joy to others?
For me, the fascinating people I meet and work with each day. I thoroughly enjoy meeting with our prospects and clients. Their challenges and needs are the fuel that propels our innovation engines.
Hearing how we can be a better partner, and a better collaborator, drives us to do better each day.
Leaders I admire have some great perspectives on joy. SpaceX founder Elon Musk said recently, “There have to be reasons that you get up in the morning and you want to live. Why do you want to live? What’s the point? What inspires you? What do you love about the future?”
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella finds joy in connecting innovative technologies to users. “At its most powerful, technology can contribute to incredible human capability and insight. I also believe it can help people find immense joy and a deeper connection to the world around them by enabling them to realize their professional and personal potentials.”
Personally, I get great joy from working in healthcare, which challenges us every day to do better – and be better – for those who are dedicated to patient care.
Joy ultimately boils down to a balance of the people we love and if we’re lucky, gratitude for the chance to do meaningful work that we love.
Wishing you all a joyous holiday season and a joyous new year.
