With a significant increase in fraud attempts since the onset of COVID-19, there has been a renewed focus on the world’s need for safe and secure technology. Hear from some of Nuance’s cybersecurity and fraud prevention pros across the company on industry trends, customer asks, and how our solutions are keeping people safe.
“Last month, you might have noticed an abundance of publications and articles on the subject of fraud across all of our social media platforms. And there’s a reason for it – for those who didn’t know, it was the International Fraud Awareness Week. This global campaign, created by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, aims to raise awareness on different fraud issues that consumers can fall victim to. It’s also a great occasion for organizations to publicly commit to do more to stop fraud, and tackle the issue as the global social problem it is. Nuance doesn’t only create cutting edge fraud detection technologies to protect our customers (and their customers). We are also fully committed to help advance and expand the international anti-fraud community’s knowledge and understanding of fraud schemes, prevention strategies, and good practices. We are proud to publicly support the International Fraud Awareness Week and to concretely support the fight against fraud, every single day.” – Simon Marchand, CFE, Chief Fraud Prevention Officer
Suffice to say, the world is a different, and sometimes overwhelming, place right now. With 1.1 billion fraud attacks in the first half of 2020 (which is double the attack volume compared to the second half of 2019), we’re seeing a dramatic attempt from fraudsters to take advantage of the current situation. In fact, according to the Federal Trade Commission, Americans have lost $145 million to fraud related to COVID-19. Although frightening, these stats have empowered the teams at Nuance to keep developing solutions to protect the people who use our technology. While we encourage our customers to be hypervigilant in these times, we are continually innovating and updating our technology to help prevent fraudsters from getting access to their information. Our teams work to make what matters and give people a sense of security when they need it most.
Nuance recognized International Fraud Awareness Week by hearing what some of our cybersecurity and fraud prevention pros across the company on industry trends, customer asks, and how our solutions keep people safe had to say:
“Together, we must remain ever vigilant and with heightened awareness that cybercriminals are constantly trying to gain access to our personal information so they can do harm to us and our families.” – Leslie, Chief Information Security Officer
“Security can be about allowing access, just as much as it is meant to prevent it. This requires developing trustworthy systems on pillars of confidentiality, integrity, and availability so you can get business done while keeping data safe.” – Devlin, Senior Director, Product and Cloud Security
“For more than 10 years I was on the frontline, managing fraud prevention teams, trying to stay ahead of criminals. Although this was a thrilling experience, full of projects and stories, nothing quite compares to the opportunity to develop state-of-the-art AI-powered fraud prevention tools that not only allow us to detect and prevent fraud, but to go one step further to identify and catch fraudsters. All of that, with the most brilliant minds in the field, dedicated to invent solutions I couldn’t have dreamed of when I started 10 years ago.” – Simon Marchand, CFE, Chief Fraud Prevention Officer
“My computer security experience started back in “ancient times” when system security meant locking your disks, tapes, and yes, even punch cards in a filing cabinet and locking the door. My professional security software experience began as a Sales Rep. in the enterprise Antivirus industry, with the last six years spent in the Digital Identity Verification space. I’m most excited about how we will take our expertise gained in the Voice channel to help customers deliver the same frictionless, yet highly secure experiences via Digital Web and Mobile channels. Customers have been asking me to deliver a single cloud-based security platform which works for all of their lines of business and customer types, regardless of where the customer journey begins and ends. Now, I have the proper tools backed by the resources needed to make this a reality.” – Danny, Fraud and Biometric Sales Executive
“What we hear in the field is that it’s not just about monetary savings using our fraud prevention tools, it’s also about gaining the trust of our customers and giving them that sense of security.” – Dima, Senior Principal Customer Success Manager
“We protect people from having their identities and personal information abused, from having their personal bank accounts emptied, from a fraudster using their name to steal iPhones. Beyond the material impact such crimes would have on hardworking people, the protection we offer is peace of mind that someone else wouldn’t be able to take advantage of your personal information against your will.” – Haydar, Director – Product Management, Security & Biometrics GTM
“When I was a teenager, my dream was to become a police officer and keep people safe from criminals. For the last twenty years, I’ve dedicated my career to fight criminals through biometric technology. I’ve fulfilled my dream, it’s just the tools (and the uniform) that are different. Instead, I’m an using AI-powered voice biometrics engine to protect people. I’m proud that I’ve helped fraud prevention teams around the world stop millions of fraud attacks, and in many cases, identify fraudsters, leading to their arrest and prosecution.” – Brett, Vice President, Biometrics and Security
